Mr. Ludwig - Middle School ELA

I’m a writer as well as a teacher, and have been teaching language arts for about twenty years. Spending time on the trail, playing the guitar, and writing books are some of my favorite things to do. I also organize our student-run literary magazine, Black Bear Shorts (insert link). As a teacher, I believe that students need to view themselves as artists and creators. We don’t go to school just to “get an education,” but rather to make ourselves into the kind of people we want to become. What are your goals? What do you need in order to reach them? Who can help you on your way? These are the questions that students need to ask themselves.

Mr. Hengstenberg - Middle School Science

I have been teaching science for eighteen years. I grew up in New Jersey and started playing Ice Hockey at the age of four. I came to New Hampshire to go to Plymouth State College, where I played ice hockey, and earned a teaching degree in Life Science Education. I really enjoy the outdoors. Some of my favorite hobbies are rock climbing, mountain biking, backcountry skiing, and trail running. I also enjoy traveling around the world with my family. I am very excited to be part of the Russell Elementary School team, and look forward to teaching middle school science.
